About the Course
Hair and makeup artists are often hired for productions with little to no formal theatrical training. They are expected to “figure it out” in fast-paced environments where continuity, timing, and collaboration are critical.
This course fills that gap.
Theatrical Hair & Wig Production 101 introduces participants to the systems, workflows, and responsibilities of a professional hair and wig department. Instruction is grounded in real production practices, teaching not just what to do, but how and why it’s done in theatre settings.
This is a look-and-learn class, meaning participants observe professional techniques, backstage processes, and decision-making as they happen — exactly as they would on a working show.
Who This Class Is For
This class is open to anyone who wants to learn how theatrical hair and wig production works and develop skills to enter or support live performance environments.
It is especially valuable for:
Cosmetologists and barbers looking to expand beyond the salon into theatre, entertainment, or live events
Hair and makeup artists who have been (or expect to be) hired for productions without proper theatrical training
Community theatre, school theatre, and church production teams seeking professional-level structure and best practices
Theatre students or recent graduates wanting practical, production-based knowledge not always taught in academic programs
Wardrobe, costume, or stage management assistants looking to better understand hair and wig continuity
Production assistants and backstage crew members transitioning into hair and wig roles
Artists building a freelance portfolio in theatre, touring shows, or live performance
Individuals with strong hair skills but no theatre experience seeking a clear, realistic entry point into the industry
Whether you’re supporting a smaller production or preparing to work professionally, this course provides the foundational training needed to work confidently behind the scenes.

The Experience
